The sloka “Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu Guru Devo Maheshwara” is a hymn that speaks about the importance of the Guru or spiritual teacher in one’s life. It describes the Guru as being the embodiment of the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara (Shiva).

Here is an explanation of the meaning of the sloka:

“Guru” – spiritual teacher or guide, who imparts knowledge and wisdom

“Brahma” – the creator god in Hinduism, responsible for the creation of the universe

“Vishnu” – the preserver god in Hinduism, responsible for maintaining and preserving the universe

“Devo” – god, divine

“Maheshwara” – another name for Lord Shiva, the god of destruction and transformation in Hinduism

The sloka states that the Guru is the embodiment of the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara, and by extension, the embodiment of all knowledge and wisdom in the world. It is saying that the Guru is the source of all knowledge, the one who guides the student to the ultimate realization, the one who is responsible for the creation, preservation and destruction of the universe and the one who is divine.

It is emphasizing the importance of the Guru in one’s spiritual journey and the respect that should be accorded to the Guru.
