The festival of Chhath is celebrated with great pomp for four days. Know the date of Chhath Puja, the date and auspicious time of Nahay Khay, Kharna, Pahila Arg and Dursra Arg.
The festival of Chhath starts with Nahay Khay on the Chaturthi date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. The fast is concluded by offering Kharna on Panchami, Arghya to the setting sun on Shashthi and water to the rising sun on Saptami. In this pooja, Surya and Chhathi Maiya are worshipped.
In the year 2023, Chhath Puja will start from 17th November and will end on 20th November 2023. It is believed that by observing a fast during Chhath Puja and worshiping Surya-Chhathi Maiya, children never face any trouble. This fast is considered very important for the happiness and progress of children.
17 November 2023 Nahay Khay – In the Nahay Khay tradition of Chhath Puja, devotees take bath in the river, wear new clothes and eat vegetarian food. Only after the fasting person takes food, the rest of the family members take food.
18 November 2023 Kharna – On the day of Kharna, fasting people eat sweet food once. On this day, rice pudding made from jaggery is eaten. This prasad is made by lighting fire with mango wood on a new earthen stove. After eating this Prasad, the fast starts. Salt is not eaten on this day
Arghya to the setting sun on 19 November 2023 – The third day of Chhath Puja is very special. On this day, Arghya is offered to the setting sun in the evening. Arghya soup is decorated with fruits, thekua, rice laddu etc. in the basket. Arghya is offered while standing waist-deep in water in a river or pond.
Arghya to the rising sun on 20 November 2023 – Arghya is offered to the rising sun on the fourth day. Only after this the 36 hours fast ends. Purity of mind and body is very important in Chhath Puja. After offering Arghya, the devotees break their fast by consuming Prasad.
Chhath fast is considered one of the most difficult fasts. On the day of Kharna, after worshiping in the evening, the devotees take Prasad and then observe a waterless fast for 36 continuous hours.
Nahay Khae will be performed on 17th November 2023. Kharna will be celebrated on 18th November 2023. Chhath Puja will be performed on 19th November 2023. On this day, Arghya will be offered to the setting sun. On 20th November 2023, Arghya will be offered to the rising sun and with this Chhath Puja will be concluded and the fast will be broken.
When is Chhath Puja 2023?: Shashthi Tithi will start at 09:18 AM on November 18 and end at 07:23 AM on November 19. Since Udaya Tithi is valid, Chhath Puja will be performed on 19th November.
