However, Hiranyakashyap’s own son, Prahlad, was a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe. Despite his father’s commands and threats, Prahlad remained steadfast in his faith, chanting the name of Vishnu and spreading his devotion among the people.
Enraged by Prahlad’s defiance, Hiranyakashyap attempted various methods to dissuade him from worshipping Vishnu, including subjecting him to torture and imprisonment. But Prahlad’s unwavering devotion only grew stronger, earning him the ire of his father even more.
Hiranyakashyap sought the help of his sister, Holika, who possessed a boon that made her immune to fire. Together, they hatched a plan to eliminate Prahlad once and for all. Holika would sit in a blazing fire with Prahlad on her lap, intending to burn him alive while she remained unharmed.
On the appointed day, Holika sat in the pyre with Prahlad on her lap as the flames engulfed them. But divine intervention intervened. Prahlad continued to chant the name of Vishnu with unwavering faith, invoking the protection of the Lord. Miraculously, Holika was consumed by the flames while Prahlad emerged unscathed, untouched by the fire’s fury.
